World Literature: A Christian Worldview

A complete, structured literature program for Christian schools and homeschool co-ops.
World Literature: A Christian Worldview is a two-volume set (it also brings in other volumes; see below) that features strong, worthwhile readings with clear guidance to help students understand and think about what they read. The selections include ancient writings from Biblical and other authors; short stories, essays, and speeches from nations around the world; two non-fiction works from Christian missionaries; and great novels. The goal with this course is to help students engage with ideas, evaluate them carefully, and grow in discernment to be “filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9).
This course is built to work well in both classrooms and co-ops, with support that keeps things clear and manageable:
- A 36-week reading schedule for Christian schools
- A 32-week reading schedule for homeschool co-ops
- Introductions that give helpful context before each selection
- Notes that explain difficult passages and highlight key ideas
- Review questions that lead naturally into discussion and reflection
- An answer key to questions for review
The structure helps reduce preparation time while still giving instructors flexibility in pacing and emphasis. It’s designed to support real conversations in class (not just check off assignments) and to fit comfortably within a standard high school literature course.
Volume 1: Ancient Writings – Key Bible passages; writings from early Christians, Hippocrates, Confucius, and the Koran (all compared to God’s Word!); The Odyssey (specifically tailored for Christian reading); and Martyr of the Catacombs, a novella about Christian persecution in Ancient Rome.
Volume 2: Short Stories, Essays, and Speeches of the World & A Tale of Two Cities – This volume includes key essays, speeches, and inspiring, entertaining, thought-provoking, and funny short stories from Russia, Spain, Norway, New Zealand, England, France, the Netherlands, Canada, Germany, Wales, Denmark, Japan, Italy, Australia, Sweden, and India. It also includes the complete text of A Tale of Two Cities, one of Dickens’s great novels, set in the turmoil of the French Revolution.
Other Works:
- God of the Untouchables – This is a stirring, exciting non-fiction account of an Indian who comes to Christ.
- Evidence Not Seen – Darlene Deibler Rose, a missionary to New Guinea, tells her incredible story.
- Let Me Die in Ireland – This inspiring historical novel of Saint Patrick’s life, based on his journal writings, was written by Christian historian David Bercot.
- Animal Farm – This is a must-read for high schoolers, in our day when “democratic socialism” is rising in popularity.
